Acesso em:.https://bdm.ufpa.br/handle/prefix/8434This Course Completion Work (TCC) deals with the reflection on informal mathematical knowledge of masons intertwining the formal knowledge of Mathematics in an ethnomathematical approach. For the accomplishment of this qualitative study three masons were interviewed, who work in this profession with time varying from 12 to 29 years possessing vast experience in this area. For the study we used in situ interviews, with audio recording and to obtain the data a field research was done, with a descriptive character with the aid of systematic observations. Throughout the work is discussed on the concept of Ethnomathematics and we also deal with formal and informal mathematical knowledge. The major emphasis of this study is on the knowledges acquired by the masons throughout their activities, which are acquired in an empirical way. When comparing how masons proceed to do their calculations and how these calculations are done in school, it has been observed that there are similarities in some respects and in others not. Masons do their calculations in a practical way, often using formal knowledge, but unaware of what it is.
