Among the methods of controlling and increasing fertility in agricultural systems, composting has gained prominence. From the experience of a university extension project and dialogue with farmers, with field experimentation, the research aims to analyze the process of decomposition of different materials through the composting method. The experiment was conducted from September 2018 to March 2019, where 3 treatments and 2 replications were carried out, using materials such as cupuaçu leaves (Theobroma grandiflorum) and chopped banana stem (Musa sp.), açaí cultural remains, plentiful in the locality. The materials used in each pile were manually chopped with a machete. As main managements, weekly watering and turning with manual hoe were carried out. The results pointed to differences in the decomposition time of each treatment, depending on the material used, with those with açaí leaves taking longer (from 180 to 200 days), while those with banana leaves and only cupuaçu foliage take around of 90 days.
