In Brazil, the Amazon region is considered an area of high endemicity for HBV infection, representing a major health problem. In the North, vertical transmission of HBV is among the main forms of transmission, babies born to a mother with HBV have a 90% chance of presenting disease chronicity and a 200-fold increased risk of developing hepatocellular carcinoma. Objective: to estimate the prevalence and to identify the clinical and epidemiological profile of HBV infection in pregnant women attended at the Women's Health Clinic in the Holy House of Mercy of Pará. Methods: A cross-sectional and descriptive study with a quantitative approach. A total of 18 pregnant women with HBV infection from 1,637 patients attended in high risk antenatal care from August 2017 to May 2018 participated in the study through a clinical and epidemiological questionnaire. Results: The prevalence rate of HBV was 1.16%. The majority of women are in the 30-39 year age group (50%, n = 9), are married or are in stable union (88.88%, n = 16), are brown (77.77%, n = 14) and comes from the metropolitan region of Belém (72.22%; n = 13), with high school completed (44.44%; n = 08), low family income (94.44%, n = 17), are housewife (66,66%; n=12), are women of multiple pregnancy (44.44%, n = 8), with diagnosis of HBV infection in the first trimester of the current gestation (64.28%, n = 9), asymptomatic (94.44%, n = 17) and were in the non-replicative chronic phase (38.88%, n = 07). Regarding the complications during pregnancy, about 27.77% (n = 5) presented complications during pregnancy such as bleeding, UTI, convulsions, gestational diabetes and severe oligohydramnios. It was observed that 17.64% (n = 3) of the newborns were classified as PIG and preterm, 7.14% (n = 1) had low birth weight (<2,500g) and 7.14% (n = 1) only classified as SGA, and immunoprophylaxis was performed in the upper 12-hour interval of delivery in 25% (n = 4) of the cases. Conclusion: The prevalence of HBV in gestation in this study was considered low endemicity, in which the majority are married, from the metropolitan area of Belém, multiparous, asymptomatic and with chronic infection in the inactive phase. Further investigations are necessary to confirm these findings and / or reveal new epidemiological aspects of this disease.
