Acesso em:.http://bdm.ufpa.br/jspui/handle/prefix/966In recent years, there has been an increase in studies focusing on the substitution of synthetic fibers for natural materials in polymeric composites, due to the manufacturing costs of synthetic fibers and the large number of wastes generated polluting the environment. This work consists in the partial substitution of the synthetic fiber of glass by the natural jute fiber, mechanically evaluating traction and flexion, making physical analyzes and analysis of the fractures of the composites with natural fibers of jute and synthetic fibers of glass. The fibers were purchased from local trade in Belém-PA and used in lengths of 15 mm, 30 mm and 45 mm. The composite manufacturing process was hand lay up. The polymer matrix was constituted by unsaturated isophthalic polyester resin together with catalyst (1 %) and cobalt accelerator (1.5 %) in v / v. The proportions of jute fiber and glass embedded in the composites were 2.5 % and 5 % by mass. The mechanical characterizations of the composites were evaluated by tests of tensile strength and flexure according to ASTM 3039 and ASTM 790, respectively. The physical properties (apparent porosity, water absorption and apparent specific mass) following the norm NBR 12766. The fractures of the composites were analyzed by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). The results of the composites with jute fibers and glass fibers for the tensile test were higher than the full matrix. The modulus of elasticity of composites with jute fibers and glass fibers compared to the full matrix increased. The bending tests of the composites of jute fibers and glass fibers had a lower value compared to the full matrix and the modulus of elasticity of the composites with jute fibers and that with glass fibers presented inferior results compared to the full matrix. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) allowed identification and fracture characteristics of composites.
