Weld beads fabricated with varying torch advance and reverse lengths were analyzed. The switchback technique significantly influenced the bead geometry, increasing heat distribution and causing raised areas at the reversal points. Analysis of current and voltage oscillograms revealed arc instability, especially at higher welding speeds, leading to defects like "humping." The welds' microstructure showed grain recrystallization in the fusion zone, confirming the thermal effect of the technique.
