Acesso em:http://bdm.ufpa.br/jspui/handle/prefix/514The main objective of this study was to evaluate the temporal visual sensitivity of patients on antimalarial therapy by comparing a control group and a group of patients on therapy with chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine. It is an observational-analytical, controlled cross-sectional study. Tests were performed with 26 control subjects and 14 patients on antimalarial therapy. The tests were based on two stimuli (one reference stimulus and another test stimulus) that were presented simultaneously. The reference stimulation was composed of a central circular stimulus and a peripheral annular stimulus, both spatially homogeneous. The luminance of both the central and peripheral stimuli was sinusoidal modulated at a 3 Hz time frequency. The temporal oscillation measurements, noticed at the center of the reference stimulus, were repeated in 2 different phases (0 ° and 180 °) of modulation shown between central and peripheral reference stimuli. The center and periphery of the reference stimulus could be presented under monoptic and dichoptic conditions, evaluating the cortical and subcortical component response of these interactions. The tested person adjusted the contrast of the test stimulus until both the perception of temporal oscillation in the test stimulus and the central reference stimulus were considered as equal by the person. The data were analyzed in the statistical analysis program R 3.3.2., and has been organized in mean and standard deviation. The results revealed that the use of psychophysical methods was efficient as a noninvasive quantifier of the mechanisms of visual neurophysiology. The monoptic and dichoptic components exposed similar cortical and subcortical responses to the stimulus. The ability of contrast perception in the counter-phase (180 °) configuration was most evident in the majority of the people submitted to the test. The average values of contrast perception in the group of patients was always established in higher values if compared to the control group, predicting possible early drug retinopathy.
