Acesso em: .https://bdm.ufpa.br/handle/prefix/9916This work arose from the experience of the mandatory curricular internship carried out at the Reference Center for Social Assistance (CRAS) in the Municipality of Melgaço - PA. The same aims to analyze how people with disabilities (PCDs) and their families live in the socioeconomic context of this Municipality, taking into account the social, economic and structural barriers that this presents. Therefore, the study aims to understand how the BPC (Benefit of Continuous Provision), being an income transfer program, corroborates with the fight against the expressions of the social issue experienced by these subjects, as well as to recognize and analyze their main demands and potential for improving quality of life. For that, a bibliographical, qualitative and exploratory research was carried out, as well as field research with the families of beneficiaries of the BPC to understand how the different understandings about disability occurred and how this public was stigmatized and segregated throughout history, in different societies and how these ways of dealing with disability are reflected in the present day. From this perspective, some of the main achievements of PCDs, in the national and international context, and the legal devices that guarantee their social, political and individual rights will be addressed. In this direction, it was found that the BPC is indispensable for improving the quality of life of subjects and their families, as well as for their autonomy.
