The guiding research question addresses whether children with ASD are able to benefit from play situations that enhance processes of social interaction and communication. Furthermore, the discussion on the complexity of play is framed by the theoretical perspectives of Vygotsky (1988), Kishimoto (1996), Winnicott (1982), and Oaklander (1980), who examined the role of play in human life, particularly emphasizing its importance in child development. The methodology adopted is a bibliographic research on playfulness and its contributions to the development of autistic children. The general objective is to understand how play and playful activities can influence the development of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The discussions presented indicate positive impacts on the development of autistic children when play activities are well- structured and mediated by professionals. It is concluded that playful practices significantly contribute to the cognitive and social development of children with ASD and stand out as essential strategies in pedagogical practices.
