Acesso em:.https://bdm.ufpa.br/handle/prefix/9488This study proposes problem-based situations to be developed in the classroom, aiming to present a pedagogical approach that integrates Mathematical Modeling into the teaching of fractions in Elementary Education. The topic was chosen because it is one of the subjects that students often find most challenging, due to its abstract nature, which is generally emphasized in traditional teaching practices. The proposal consists of designing modeling activities that relate fraction content to real-life situations experienced by students, thereby promoting the construction of mathematical knowledge in a contextualized and meaningful way. In this way, students, when faced with the proposed problem, are expected to develop logical and strategic reasoning, mobilizing different ways of thinking, discussing, and representing fractions. The theoretical framework of the proposal is based on references from Mathematics Education and guidelines from the Brazilian National Common Core Curriculum (BNCC), valuing pedagogical practices that encourage critical thinking, active participation, and student protagonism in the learning process. It is important to emphasize that this study is limited to the presentation of the problem situation and its pedagogical foundations, not including classroom application results.
