Among the causes, we can mention genetic, external and internal factors, changes that directly interfere with the health and well-being of patients. Understanding the risk factors and possible complications associated with PCOS highlights the importance of prevention and adequate management of this condition. The present study aimed to identify nutritional strategies for the treatment of women with this syndrome. This is an integrative literature review in which the methodology comprised the search for scientific articles from the last 5 years in the MEDLINE and LILACS databases, via the Virtual Health Library (VHL). The inclusion criteria for selecting the articles were: containing at least two of the keywords presented in the title: “polycystic ovary syndrome” and “diet” or “PCOS”, analyzing whether the titles and abstracts responded to the research objective, totaling 9 articles for the review. The results of the study were evaluated regarding their effect on the treatment of PCOS. The DASH diet, Mediterranean diet and low-carbohydrate diets have shown positive results in their effects, especially with the improvement of the metabolic and hormonal profiles faced by women with PCOS. In addition, nutritional supplementation of micronutrients and a diet rich in antioxidants have shown benefits in the treatment of the syndrome. In conclusion, changes in the lifestyle of women with PCOS are necessary, as well as the practice of physical activity as a complement to a healthy diet, in order to ensure improvement in the treatment of PCOS and its complications.
