Acesso em:.https://bdm.ufpa.br/handle/prefix/9728This capstone project aimed to explore the games and play activities experienced by six elderly individuals during the 1950s in the Marajó archipelago, analyzing the dynamics between play and child labor in these riverine communities based on their narratives and memories. The research sought to answer the following central question: what games and play activities did today's elderly population experience during their childhoods in the 1950s within Marajó's riverine communities? A qualitative approach was adopted, grounded in the theoretical-methodological principles of Oral History. Data collection involved focused interviews—audio-recorded—with six elderly individuals who spent their childhoods (or parts thereof) in the rural areas of Marajó during the 1950s. Participants were selected through visits, contacts, and conversations in the municipality of Breves, Pará. The results indicate that, regarding the relationship between work and play, priority was given to the former, as daily life for these families was dominated by labor. Nevertheless, the participants seized opportunities to engage in various recreational activities.
