Acesso em:.https://bdm.ufpa.br/handle/prefix/9329This study aimed to analyze the perception of residents of Vila Vinagre, located in the municipality of Acará, regarding the implementation of a community library, from the perspective of community studies in the field of Library and Information Science. Situated in a rural context and marked by socioeconomic limitations and restricted access to cultural resources, Vila Vinagre presents informational demands that directly impact the educational, cultural, and social development of its residents. The research is characterized as a field study, with a mixed-methods approach, conducted with 30 participants, corresponding to 21.1% of the adult population of the community. Data collection occurred through an electronic form and direct observation, and the analysis was conducted based on the Content Analysis technique. Initially, the sociodemographic profile of the interviewees was outlined, highlighting a predominance of young people and adults, greater female participation, schooling concentrated in secondary education, majority activity in agriculture, and family income below one minimum wage, configuring a scenario of social vulnerability. Regarding reading habits, it was found that, although all participants are literate, reading books is not a frequent practice, with cell phones being the main means of accessing information. Difficulty in citing authors, scientists, and research institutions was also observed, revealing gaps in access to scientific and cultural information. Despite this, residents widely recognize the importance of reading as a tool for learning, critical thinking, and social development. The results indicate strong acceptance of the proposal to implement the community library, mainly associated with supporting the studies of children and young people, encouraging reading, access to books and information, preserving local memory, and promoting cultural activities. The community's significant willingness to actively participate in the construction and maintenance of the space is also noteworthy.
