Acesso em:.https://bdm.ufpa.br/handle/prefix/9290Objective: To report the experience of university extension made by medical students in riverside communities of a region of Pará known as Volta Grande do Xingu. Experience report: This is a descriptive study of the type of experience report obtained during the realization of an educational project of extension in health aimed at the child and youth public whose theme emphasized the means of contamination, prevention and toxic effects of methylmercury (MeHg), an organic form of mercury (Hg). For the success of the action and greater interaction with this audience, playful tools such as animated videos, theater and group dynamics were used as educational strategies. Final considerations: This university action achieved its social role by transmitting knowledge capable of empowering the community in promoting self-care and social well-being. In addition, it allowed academics to experience new experiences that contributed to the training of general practitioners capable of managing health actions, not only in the Amazon region, but also in different parts of the country.
