The environmental impacts of mineral extraction were taken as an example. Benefits such as job creation and tax revenues stand out, but so do significant losses, including deforestation, soil degradation, water and air pollution, and landscape alteration. Using the checklist method, it was pos- sible to identify and classify the impacts, concluding that mining, while economically important, re- quires mitigating measures to reduce environmental and social damage.
