The central research question was: In what ways does the music education offered by the project contribute to the civic formation of its participants? The main objective was to analyze the teaching of music in the project, considering its role in fostering citizenship among adolescents at social risk. Methodologically, the study adopted a qualitative approach, combining documentary research—through analysis of the Political-Pedagogical Project and institutional guidelines—with fieldwork involving observation and semi-structured interviews with the institution’s pedagogical staff. Findings reveal that the project transcends purely assistentialist or technical perspectives, aligning its workshops (popular guitar, recorder, and choral singing) with the guidelines of the National Common Curricular Base (BNCC). The study concludes that collective musical practice within Projeto Guarda Jovem functions as a democratic microsystem sustained by three essential dimensions: cultural inclusion through cognitive justice, autonomy via coproduction of knowledge, and a sense of social belonging.
