Currently desensitizing creams are one of the most used forms of treatment for this pathology. In this context, this work aimed to evaluate the degree of dentin obliteration after the use of the casein phosphopeptide-amorphous calcium phosphate fluoride (CPP-ACPF) and calcium sodium phosphosilicate (Novamin), by means of the scanning electron microscopy analysis of scanning (SEM). For this study, third human molars were collected, cleaned and stored in thymol at 0.1% for 7 days. The specimens were cut 5 mm long, 5 mm wide and 1 mm thick. Three specimens of each group were selected: G1- treated with CPP-ACPF, G2- treated with NOVAMIN, and G3 - Negative control (no treatment). In the G1 and G2 specimens the corresponding desensitizer was applied for 1 minute. After application the specimens were cleaned and placed in an oven for 24 hours. Images were taken in SEM with standardized increases of 5,000 and 20,000 Kx and were analyzed by blind evaluators to the group to which the images belonged. Statistical analysis with ANOVA and post-hoc Tukey, with a statistical significance of p <0.05, showed that the CPP-ACPF and Novamin groups had a 75% dentin obliteration level, whereas the control group presented the open tubules. In this way, the efficacy of the desensitizing groups tested was evidenced, considering them as effective for the treatment of DH, when compared to a negative control.
