The proper alternative for disposing of urban solid waste is sanitary landfills; however, due to the intense urbanization process, the areas available for solid waste disposal have become increasingly limited. This study aims to evaluate suitable areas for the installation of a sanitary landfill in the municipality of Abaetetuba, Pará, using Geographic Information Systems and geoprocessing through a multi-criteria decision analysis. The methodology adopted in this study involves the definition of constraint factors, standardization of variables (Fuzzy logic), weighted comparison of factors through the AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process) method, and the aggregation of factors and constraints. This method enabled the development of thematic maps for each criterion to facilitate the interpretation and comparison of the selected criteria. For evaluating the area needed for the landfill, a lifespan of 20 years was determined. Using the geometric method, it was possible to estimate Abaetetuba's population from 2025 to 2044. Based on this, it was found that an area equivalent to 35 hectares would be required to meet the population’s demand. The results indicated that areas with the highest suitability represent 1.46% (23.5 km²) of the territory, while 35.68% (574.85 km²) are unsuitable for landfill installation due to technical, environmental, and socioeconomic limitations. A total of 205 areas with high suitability were identified, however, only 15 areas were selected, with dimensions greater than 35 hectares. After evaluating each area, areas 14 and 15 were defined as the most suitable for the installation of a sanitary landfill, meeting all criteria and the pre-determined minimum area requirement.
