One of the most common problems is urban sprawl, which causes damage to aquatic environments, generating their eutrophication through contamination via domestic and industrial sewage. These problems are observed in the Parque Estadual do Utinga (PEUt), where the watershed of Lakes Bolonha and Água Preta (MHLBA) is located, the main source of supply for the Metropolitan Region of Belém (RMB). Remote sensing and geoprocessing are the main techniques for monitoring and evaluating the impact of land cover and land use changes over the last 50 years. The objective of this work is to evaluate the MHLBA land cover and use changes from 1984 to 2020 from the analysis of Landsat and Sentinel images based on geographic objects (GEOBIA). The results obtained indicate that the urban area underwent an expansion of 0.13 km², while 1.04 km² of the lake water mirror were converted into macrophytes, indicating an intense eutrophication process. On the other hand, the PEUt forest area increased by 6.86 km² in relation to the pasture area, signaling a process of forest recovery. This work concludes that GEOBIA is a powerful tool for analysis of aquatic ecosystems, and can be scaled up for such purposes.
