The study is exploratory and descriptive in nature, using a qualitative approach, developed in three stages: bibliographic research, documentary research through comparative analysis between the principles of the ethical dimension of Information Literacy proposed by Vitorino and Piantola (2020) and the Archivist's Code of Ethics (ICA, 1996), and a case study through the application of a questionnaire to 40 Brazilian archivists working in the field. The results show that the principles of the ethical dimension of Information Literacy, such as listening, dialogue, mutual respect, flexibility, among others, are manifested in the code of ethics and are predominant in the actions of archivists, although there are some caveats. However, conflicts were observed associated with the professional's value, their freedom of expression, and the common sense that involves the balance of their activities. It can be concluded that the ethical dimension constitutes an essential aspect of Information Literacy for the critical and responsible performance of archivists. However, the development of the principles of this dimension also depends on organizational factors that contribute to the ethical foundation of archivists in their field of work.
