Acesso em:.https://bdm.ufpa.br/handle/prefix/9327This work presents the development and implementation of an automation system for power factor control of a medium-voltage capacitor bank installed in an industrial plant. The adopted methodology was based on the use of the existing infrastructure, employing a Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) to execute a control logic developed in Lad der language, integrated with the supervisory and protection systems using electrical measurements obtained at the 69 kV busbar. The automation was designed to perform the automatic connection and disconnection of capacitor stages, incorporating hysteresis criteria, time delays, safety interlocks, and switching operation records. The system was implemented for three months and operated in an assisted mode., allowing the monitoring of power factor behavior, capacitor stage switching, and protection system events. The results demonstrated proper integration between measurement, control, and supervision systems, as well as the correct operation of the developed control logic. During operation, a limitation related to the mechanical condition of a preexisting oil switch was identi ed, which restricted the continuity of automatic operation.
