The present work aimed to use natural dolomite for methylene blue adsorption, being an odorless heterocyclic aromatic compound with molecular formula equal to C16H18ClN3S, molar mass 319.85g/mol, solid, dark green, soluble in water and ethanol, thus producing a blue colored solution. The optimization of methylene blue adsorption using natural dolomite was performed using a factorial design 23 and 3 repetitions at the central point using a batch process consisting of 10 mL of aqueous methylene blue solution, temperature (30 oC) and stirring. 100 rpm. Input variables correspond to dye concentration (5 mg/L, 10 mg/L and 15 mg/L), adsorbent mass (50 mg, 150 mg and 150 mg) and contact time of the dye blue solution methylene with natural dolomite (2 min, 4 min and 6 min). The results obtained for the characterization of the material were: (i) XRD, natural dolomite, the characteristic diffraction peaks of dolomite CaMg(CO3)2, CaCO3, MgCO3 and SiO2 were identified, (ii) TG-DTG, the thermal decomposition of dolomite occurs in two events, being attributed to the formation of MgO and CaO. After optimization, the highest adsorption capacity was found to be 1103 mg methylene blue in 1 g natural dolomite under the following adsorption conditions: 15 mg/L methylene blue, 50 mg adsorbent, time (6 min), pH 6, temperature 30 °C and stirring 100 rpm. Thus, natural dolomite has shown promise as an adsorbent material for decontamination of aquatic environments polluted with methylene blue dye.
