It covers not only plant-oriented knowledge, but also economic practices and activities, especially the cultivation of the Manihot esculenta Crantz, unique among the known species of the family cultivated for food, is among the most consumed foods in the world through its derivatives. . Thus, the aim of this study is to investigate the knowledge and importance of cassava in the Santa Maria community, Melgaço municipality, State of Pará. A survey of ethnobotanical material was conducted on June 1, 2019, through an interview with cassava producers using semi-structured forms using qualitative and quantitative approaches. Sixteen ethnovarieties were cited in the interview, but in the act of collecting botanical material between October 16 and 21, 2019, it was possible to collect nine ethnovarieties (Castanheira, Roberta, Pai Lorença, Amarelinha, Falsa Amarelinha, Mulata Tinga, Perpoí, Zulhuda and Suruíta). The specimens were collected with two samples each, a duplicate of each was sent as a donation to the IAN Herbarium (Eastern Amazon) to confirm the identification, Manihot esculenta Crantz, the other duplicates was deposited at the UFPA Campus Breves biodiversity laboratory. It was found that the vernacular identification happens through the morphological characteristics of the plants, it is noticed a great genetic variability, due to the exchanges between farmers, the production is directed to the commercialization and consumption of its derivatives, where the flour is the main product. The production happens through family farming, still with the traditional cultivation and the rudimentary physical structure. Through the use of these derivatives for both consumption and source of income.Acesso AbertoAgricultura FamiliarEtnobotânicaMarajóRio AnapúFamily FarmingEthnobotanyAnapú RiverCNPQ::CIENCIAS AGRARIAS::AGRONOMIA::EXTENSAO RURALUm estudo de caso sobre o conhecimento e importância da mandioca na comunidade Santa Maria, cidade de Melgaço, Estado do ParáTrabalho de Curso - Graduação - MonografiaAttribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs 3.0 Brazil
