Acesso em:.https://bdm.ufpa.br/jspui/handle/prefix/7020Background: The macular hole consists of a pathological involvement of the center of the retina, known as the macula, causing a reduction in full visual capacity. Macular peeling is one of the surgical procedures available to treat macular holes, with the aim of improving visual acuity. Objectives: Aimed to evaluate the main efficacy of macular peeling as a treatment for macular holes, as well as its impact on patients' visual acuity. Methods: Retrospective, descriptive, quantitative analytical study developed with patients who underwent macular peeling at the Clínica RetinaPro. Results: The research involved 14 participants and found that 78.6% achieved successful closure of macular holes after the surgical intervention, demonstrating the effectiveness of the procedure. Data analysis revealed that 57.1% of patients experienced a significant improvement in visual acuity, with average visual acuity improvement from 20/48 to 20/33 post-operation. A closer examination of the patient characteristics showed that the majority were female (71.4%) and had an average age of 65.9 years. The evaluation of results revealed that 57.1% of cases were classified as excellent, 28.6% as good, and 14.3% as poor. Conclusions: The present provided substantial evidence regarding the efficacy of macular peeling as a therapeutic approach for macular holes, positively contributing to patients' visual acuity.
