Acesso em:.https://bdm.ufpa.br/handle/prefix/9436Science, despite presenting itself as a universal space for knowledge production, has a trajectory marked by gender inequalities that affect who is considered a legitimate subject of scientific practice. In this scenario, the objective of this study was to analyze the social representations of elementary school students in relation to the actors of science, focusing on gender stereotypes and female participation in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics). The study was conducted in a private educational institution in the city of Ananindeua (PA), with the participation of 40 students from the 6th and 9th grades, aged between 11 and 14 years. A questionnaire with open-ended questions was used for data collection, with a qualitative approach, incorporating quantitative elements through content analysis. The results showed that the figure of the scientist is predominantly represented as male, which highlights the continuity of historically established gender stereotypes. However, it was found that most students who identify with the female gender can see themselves in a scientific career, indicating a time of transformation and change of mentality, despite the persistence of the male stereotype of the actors of science.
