Acesso em: .http://bdm.ufpa.br/jspui/handle/prefix/1419This research was conducted in the urban area of Porto Velho (Brazilian state of Rondônia) and involved three stratigraphic units: the Jaciparaná Formation, immature laterite and the Jamari Complex. The main objective was to assess the quality of groundwater. For this purpose, 141 samples of well water were collected during the rainy season, from January to March 2012. Those samples underwent laboratory tests for the following parameters: thermotolerant coliforms, iron, manganese, chloride, hardness, fluoride, pH, sulfate, turbidity, nitrate, and ammonia. The results were organized in spreadsheets where they were criticized and validated. The groundwater quality index values were calculated based on mathematical relations, and received four ratings: excellent, good, average and bad. The data were separated in two groups: group A, formed by the values rated "excellent" and "good", and group B, formed by those rated "average" and "bad". After adjusting the semivariogram (with the aid of softwares GS+, version 9, and Surfer, version 8), a set of maps was elaborated with values estimated by ordinary kriging for the levels of each parameter within each group, as well as a map with values for the groundwater quality index estimated by ordinary kriging. The results of the study allowed to identify the regions in the urban area of Porto Velho with higher and lower rates of groundwater quality.
