The central issue of this study consists in understanding how teachers can encourage the practice of children’s literary reading in a more meaningful way, effectively promoting student engagement. The research is justified by the need to exert influence through new pedagogical methodologies related to teaching–learning practices for the construction of a reflective and critical reader through the reading of children’s literature. From a methodological point of view, this is a bibliographic and documentary study for data collection. These data were later analyzed in light of the theoretical framework presented. The results of the research allowed for the analysis and understanding of the process of constructing the reflective and critical reader through the practice of reading children’s literature, adding knowledge about the topic under focus. The theoretical foundations aimed to provide support for a reflection on the theme, making it possible to deepen the level of understanding of the history of children’s literature in Brazil, the contextualization of the resources used to encourage the practice of children’s literary reading, and the gaps that exist in this process.Acesso AbertoLiteraturaLeitor reflexivoLeituraConstruçãoLiteratureReflective readerReadingDevelopmentCNPQ::LINGUISTICA, LETRAS E ARTES::LETRAS::LITERATURA BRASILEIRAA importância da literatura infantil para construção do leitor reflexivo e críticoTrabalho de Curso - Graduação - ArtigoAttribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs 3.0 Brazil
