The research adopted a qualitative and quantitative approach, combining a literature review, a mixed questionnaire with parents and guardians, and participant observation during school meals. Food classification was based on the Food Guide for the Brazilian Population (2014) and an instrument adapted from Assis et al. (2009). The results showed that, although schools, in accordance with the National School Feeding Program (PNAE), prioritize the provision of fresh and minimally processed foods, challenges persist in the home environment, marked by low levels of income, education, and access to information, factors that contribute to the maintenance of poor eating habits. It was concluded that there is a need to strengthen educational actions aimed at families and children, in addition to expanding pedagogical initiatives that promote awareness about healthy eating.
