The objective was to determine the transport of suspended particulate matter in the rainy season, and to identify the seasonal variability the turbidity levels in the lower Xingu. The acquisition of the samples was performed in four campaigns, with two for the dry period of the years 2011 and 2012 and two for the rainy season of 2013 and 2014. Cross transects were made to the river every hour to collect the turbidity data, on the left bank (ME), center (C) and right margin (MD) in the years 2011, 2013 and 2014, plus a longitudinal transect in 2012, through vertical profiles with the aid of an OBS sensor (Optical Beckscatter sensor) over a period of ± 13 hours approximately corresponds to a tide cycle. We calculated the concentration of suspended solids (MPS) using the method of Baumgarten (1996) and the transport volume and tidal were generated from hydrodynamic model and from the Colby Equation, 1957 modified by Costa, 2014 was calculated transporting MPS. The Xingu River is a river of clear water with low hydrodynamics microtidal regime. The tide has an average change of 1.1 m asymmetrical with the ebb period greater than the flood, occurring slight reverse current. Its hydrological regime in the flow context presents significant temporal variation of seasonal character, coming to decline by around 59.3% between rainy and dry season. The transport volume values were satisfactory, the Xingu River served as exporter in all years studied in both climate period, except for the dry period to 2011, thus it is considered that this river always tends to be exporter. standards for vertical turbidity profiles were uniform throughout the water column for every year. The Xingu river did not change significantly the seasonal turbidity. The influence of the Amazon River in turbidity and MPS of the river was restricted to its mouth. Regarding the transport of MPS, the Xingu river behaved like exporter in both years studied, demonstrating the dominance of fluvial component of the tide. It has been estimated the MPS transportation to the rainy season in 5.7 *106 tonnes, which will in the final discharge MPS Amazon.Acesso AbertoHidrologia - fluxosHidrologia - inundaçõesXingu, Rio (PA)CNPQ::CIENCIAS EXATAS E DA TERRA::OCEANOGRAFIA::OCEANOGRAFIA GEOLOGICATransporte de material particulado em suspensão no baixo rio XinguTrabalho de Curso - Graduação - Monografia
