Acesso em:.https://bdm.ufpa.br/handle/prefix/10374The overall objective of this research is to analyse the student assistance policy of the Federal University of Pará (UFPA) within the scope of the National Student Assistance Policy (PNAES), established by Law No. 14,914 of 3 July 2024, with a focus on policies aimed at student mothers, also considering the institutional actions developed by UFPA through the Superintendence of Student Assistance (SAEST) and the Dean of Student Assistance and Accessibility (PROAES), from 2010 to 2024. In addition, we seek to analyse the creation and performance of the University Mothers for Permanence Collective (CMUPP), observing its contribution in the field of student assistance. The guiding question that informs the study is: what institutional retention policies have been developed for the maternal-student population at UFPA? To answer this question, university management reports, publications on the PROAES website, as well as current policies and public notices were examined. The research falls within the field of documentary analysis and bibliographic review, with Chaves & Mancebo (2024), Araújo (2024), Cunha and Paiva (2024) and Draibe (1993) as theoretical references. The results show that PNAES has established itself as a milestone in the advancement and institutionalisation of student assistance, strengthening not only access to higher education but also the retention of students in situations of social vulnerability. However, analysis of institutional policies and SAEST/PROAES notices indicates that the retention of student mothers is much more related to the individual merit of the student than subsidised by institutional retention policies for this group. In this context, the creation of CMUPP stands out as an essential initiative to enable historically neglected demands, seeking to reduce inequalities and promote a more just and accessible university for student mothers.
