Acesso em:.https://bdm.ufpa.br/handle/prefix/8543This work consists of a research that had as objective, to find the possible difficulties in learning 1ºgrau equations, seeking to know aspects of the Mathematical Language that reflect in the learning of Elementary School students about algebraic knowledge. In this way, it is Algebra as a Mathematical Language; the relation between the Portuguese Language and Mathematical Language is discussed; and also the complexity that exists in the passage from the Arithmetic Language to the algebraic language. In order to achieve this goal, data collection instruments, classroom observations through a conversation wheel, an interview with the students and a questionnaire were used as an exercise. Starting from the elements pointed out in these registers, based on theoretical references we weave the final analysis, from which emerge the results presented in the final considerations. The result of the research evidences the difficulties that the students present in using an unknown or variable, which makes clear the complexity that exists between the natural language and the mathematical language. And still difficulties in reading and interpreting the questions, which accentuates the misunderstanding of algebra, especially when it comes to problem solving.
