Mammary neoplasia represents the third most common type of neoplasia in female cats, of which 90% are malignant and generally already present metastasis at the time of diagnosis. The increase in life expectancy and the use of progestogens for suppression or postponement of estrus are predisposing factors for this type of neoplasia. Therefore, this study aimed to explain the possible palliative care measures and their importance in promoting animal welfare and quality of life in female cats affected by mammary neoplasms. A literature review was carried out, and the main clinical aspects and complications of conventional treatments were listed, emphasizing the concepts and principles of palliative care, including pain management, nutritional support, ethical aspects, welfare, and communication with caregivers. From this perspective, palliative care is a way to contribute to a more compassionate veterinary medicine centered on animal welfare, in addition to the need to encourage the development of more protocols for this approach, which is still not well established, allowing better care for the patient and their caregiver.
