Acesso em:.http://bdm.ufpa.br/jspui/handle/prefix/1306The Amazon Coastal Zone (ZCA) has peculiar oceanographic characteristics and is subject to environmental impacts caused by the occupation process, destruction of natural vegetation and growth of exploratory activities. Considering those reasons, several studies focuses on the social, economic and environmental aspects of this region in order to contribute with solutions to the current problems faced and, thus, to encourage sustainable development in the ZCA and balance the environment-development relationship. This is a proposal included in the Sustainable Development Objectives spread by the UN in 2015. The oceanographer is a professional with a fundamental role in this aspect by understanding in wide sight the diverse and complex environments that composes the ZCA. As proof, the period from 2021 to 2030 was declared as the International Decade of Oceanography for Sustainable Development. Therefore, this study will verify if the formation and the action of the oceanographer contribute to Sustainable Development in the ZCA. For that, a bibliographic survey of projects and academic / extension studies was carried out and a questionnaire was applied to the students and graduates of the Faculty of Oceanography (FAOC) at the Federal University of Pará (UFPA). It was attested that: FOAC uses interdisciplinary theoretical and practical proposals that deal with cross-cutting themes (environmental education, sustainability and society); the methodologies used during the teaching-learning process encourage the conservation and sustainable use of coastal and marine resources; students develop skills and competencies to maintain sustainable projects and practices; and the activities of teaching, research and extension contribute to the sustainable development in the ZCA. Consequently, this study concluded that the formation and performance of the oceanographer contribute to the Sustainable Development in the ZCA.Acesso AbertoDesenvolvimento sustentávelZona costeira amazônicaOceanógrafosCNPQ::CIENCIAS EXATAS E DA TERRA::OCEANOGRAFIADesenvolvimento sustentável: formação e atuação do oceanógrafoTrabalho de Curso - Graduação - Monografia
