Acesso em:.https://bdm.ufpa.br/handle/prefix/10194This study analyzes photography as an instrument for preserving the institutional memory of the Federal University of Pará (UFPA), focusing on the photographic collection of the Central Library related to the construction of the Guamá Campus. The objective was to analyze the contribution of this collection to the preservation of institutional memory, considering its formation, custodial history, organization, technical processing, preservation, and access. This is a qualitative, descriptive, and exploratory case study based on bibliographic and documentary research, a semistructured interview, and a technical visit. The results showed that the photographs constitute archival records that document key moments in the establishment of the university and preserve evidence of its historical trajectory. The study also found that, although there are weaknesses regarding the documentation of the chain of custody, the organization, description, storage, and conservation practices adopted by the Central Library contribute to preserving the collection and ensuring access to its information.
