The constant social changes that have taken place in the world indicate that the school must meet the demands imposed by society, making clear the need to address issues of sexuality and STIs with students. This study was carried out in 2016 in two public elementary schools in the city of Breves, State of Pará. The research aimed to analyze the prior knowledge of these students about sexually transmitted infections. Initially, a dynamic was worked on in order to assess the students' prior knowledge on the subject. Then, there was a lecture on ISTs, and at the end of the activities, a structured questionnaire with open questions was applied, to assess the appropriation of socialized knowledge. It was noticed with the dynamics performed that the students, initially, had little knowledge about the subject and some resisted talking about the topic. When surveyed about prior knowledge, only 25% said they knew about STIs, revealing that many students in the public school system do not have the knowledge they should about STIs. 62% of respondents said they had never participated in a lecture on this topic. However, during the intervention, the public was more open to discussions. Despite the good acceptance of the lecture by most students, it was found that 19% of students felt uncomfortable when talking about STIs. In this sense, it is understood that working on issues about sexuality is still a challenge, as some students still do not feel comfortable discussing the subject. In view of this, the existence of projects that can develop the theme at school is indispensable, as it would contribute a lot to alleviate this great social problem.
