Acesso em:.https://bdm.ufpa.br/handle/prefix/10092This research analyzes the ecclesiastical archives of the Metropolitan Cathedral of Belém and the Church of Santo Alexandre, highlighting their relevance to the preservation of the institutional memory of the Catholic Church and to the understanding of the historical, social, and cultural development of the city of Belém. The study aimed to understand the importance of these archives from the perspective of Archival Science, emphasizing the documentary production of religious institutions, the main documentary typologies, and the need for their preservation. The methodology consisted of a qualitative, exploratory, and descriptive study, conducted through bibliographic and documentary research, based on specialized literature, archival and canon legislation, databases such as Google Scholar, BRAPCI, the Digital Library of the Federal University of Pará (UFPA), and the UFPA Institutional Repository, as well as documents and information available on institutional websites. The results demonstrate that ecclesiastical archives constitute important documentary collections produced through the pastoral, administrative, patrimonial, and sacramental activities of parishes, comprising records of significant administrative, legal, historical, and informational value.
