Acesso em: .https://bdm.ufpa.br/handle/prefix/4224The CW-GMAW (Cold Wire-Gas Metal Arc Welding) welding process is a variant of the GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding) process that uses extra cold wire feed into the weld pool, generating higher deposition rates and improving process productivity. The porpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of adding the cold wire to the pool, its effect on the welded joint and to compare the results with those obtained in the conventional GMAW process. The analysis surfaces were obtained by simple deposition of weld beads in AISI 1020 steel substrate, in the flat position, with ER70S-6 class wires. For the execution of the weld beads, the electrode wire was fed at a speed of 10 m/min, while the cold wire with a feed rate of 40 %, 80 % and 120 % of the electrode wire speed. The results show that the dilution for the GMAW process was on average 52.97% and with the addition of cold wire of 40 %, 80 % and 120 % the mean dilution was 47.62 %, 37.03 % and 25.65 %, that is, lower when compared to the conventional GMAW process. In addition, cold wire reduced the penetration depth by up to 50 %.
