Acesso em:.https://bdm.ufpa.br/handle/prefix/10146Introduction: breastfeeding is considered by the World Health Organization (WHO) as a necessary factor to the infant’s healthy growth, hence it is recommended as the only form of feeding until the sixth month of life. The presence of orofacial anomalies can lead to the stomatognathic system’s imbalance and therefore limit the breastfeeding process. Objectives: Verify, by means of integrative review, if there is a cause relation between ankyloglossia and breastfeeding’s limitation. Methodology of research: the following scientific databases were searched to select and identify the publications according to the subject: SciELO, PubMed, LILACS and MEDLINE. Breastfeeding, lingual frenulum, ankyloglossia and newborn were the health sciences descriptors (DeCS) used in this research. The exclusion criteria were determined by the title, the abstract and the reading of the publications. Results: Three scientific articles were selected: a transversal descriptive study, a observational transversal study and a case report. Analyzing the sample, it was concluded that there is not enough evidence to prove the association between ankyloglossia and breastfeeding. Conclusion: According to the searched literature, it was not possible to determine if ankyloglossia is a limiting factor to the breastfeeding.
