Acesso em:.https://bdm.ufpa.br/handle/prefix/10174This article analyzes the relationships between youth, education, and labor market entry within the context of contemporary social inequalities, focusing on the reality of Belém, Pará. It proceeds from the understanding that expanded access to schooling—particularly higher education—has not eliminated the obstacles young people face in the labor market, which is characterized by processes of precarization, flexibilization, and the expansion of informality. The study discusses how factors related to social class, race, gender, and territory influence the educational and professional trajectories of Amazonian youth, highlighting the impacts of policies aimed at democratizing access to higher education. This work is based on a review of literature and documents, utilizing data from the IBGE and FAPESPA, as well as other studies on youth, education, and work. The results indicate that, although schooling remains an important mechanism for social mobility, its capacity to ensure entry into skilled employment has become more limited in light of recent labor market transformations.
