Acesso em:.https://bdm.ufpa.br/handle/prefix/5376In the field of science education, it is notable how challenging it has been to transmit content with a greater purpose than advancing level during basic education. The STS approach (Science, Technology and Society) seeks to insert in the school environment, a step forward in the teaching-learning process by combining theoretical contents (which are often only emphasized decorations, complex formulas or mere preparation for an entrance exam), with elements present in the students' daily life, aiming to favor, in addition to better assimilation of the content worked in the classroom, a training focused on citizenship. The main objective of this work was to generate, from a previous study on essential oils, a methodological intervention through the STS approach in a 3rd year high school class. To this end, this brief contribution used previous elements of research on essential oils as an introduction to a methodological intervention that addressed some points present in the approach in question. After two questionnaires applied at different times (pre and post methodological intervention) some interesting results were obtained: at first, 61.1% of the students could not observe the Chemistry contents outside the classroom, that is, in their daily lives. After the proposal, 77.8% already claimed to have such a perception, which was a great advance. In the end, the teaching methodology was approved by 94.4% of the class, which was our sample space for data collection.
