The research focuses on the management of contemporary art collections, highlighting the relevance of applied research on art collections. The author's experience as a research fellow in the Museum Research and Documentation Project for the Visual Arts Collection at the Casa das Onze Janelas Cultural Center in Belém, Pará, Brazil, is analyzed. The overall objective of this research is to demonstrate the importance of museum documentation as a research practice in art collection management. Specific objectives include: identifying the stages of museum documentation and considering the impacts of this museum documentation work on the organization and valorization of collections. This is a qualitative study, including bibliographic, documentary, and field research. The methodology adopted combined theoretical and practical approaches. The applied instrument was content analysis of reports from the fellowship experience, the stages experienced with the research group and at the art museum, among other elements arising from the network research.
