Acesso em:.https://bdm.ufpa.br/handle/prefix/8709This Final Paper aims to analyze the ways in which reading and writing practices can contribute to overcoming the learning difficulties faced by 9th-grade students at the Quilombola School Santo André, located in the islands of Abaetetuba-PA, Brazil. The research is grounded in authors such as Vygotsky (1991), Freire (1996), Bortoni-Ricardo (2004), and Soares (2004), who highlight the importance of social interaction, critical literacy, and the appreciation of linguistic diversity in the educational process. The methodology adopted is qualitative, exploratory, and descriptive in nature, employing questionnaires administered to Portuguese language teachers, the school’s coordination team, and students, followed by content analysis of the responses. The results indicate that although students present difficulties related to spelling, cohesion, and textual organization, pedagogical practices grounded in the quilombola cultural context foster engagement, strengthen students’ identity, and promote significant advances in written production.
