Understanding metaphor not merely as a stylistic device, but as a fundamental cognitive mechanism for meaning construction, the study investigates how abstract experiences such as love, forgiveness, revenge, and sadness are conceptualized through more concrete domains. The corpus consists of lyrics from representative brega songs from Pará, selected based on their thematic recurrence and cultural relevance. The methodology is qualitative in nature, employing descriptive and interpretative analytical procedures grounded in the theoretical assumptions of Lakoff and Johnson (1980), Martelotta (2003), and Souza (2016). The results indicate that metaphors play a central role in the construction of meaning in the songs, highlighting the close relationship between language, cognition, and culture.
