In this context, the use of natural fibers as reinforcement in polymer composites emerges as a promising alternative. This study addressed the use of envira cheirosa (Annona paludosa Aubl.) natural fibers as reinforcement in polyester matrix polymer composites, aiming to develop sustainable materials. The objective was to characterize envira cheirosa fiber through fiber morphology analysis using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Apparent Specific Mass (ASM) measurement using the pycnometer method, flammability testing, and tensile mechanical testing, following ASTM standards such as D 635 and D 638, respectively. Additionally, the study evaluated the performance of the composites in terms of physical properties, tensile strength, and flammability. The fabrication process was conducted using the Hand Lay-Up method, with mass fractions of 1%, 3%, and 5%, employing short fibers of 15 mm and long fibers of 160 mm. The morphological analysis revealed that the fibers had a slightly rough surface. The specific mass of the fiber was 1.154 g/cm³, aligning with values reported in the literature for plant-based fibers. In the physical tests, the composites exhibited increased porosity and water absorption as the fiber mass fraction increased. Regarding flammability, composites with 5% long fibers demonstrated better flame resistance. In the tensile test, the maximum stress was recorded in composites with 5% long fibers, showing a 40% increase compared to the neat matrix. This result highlighted the efficiency of matrix/reinforcement orientation and interaction. Furthermore, statistical analysis using ANOVA validated the significance of the results obtained in the physical, flammability, and tensile tests. Fractographic analysis confirmed fiber/matrix adhesion and revealed cohesive and interfacial fracture patterns, supporting the superior mechanical performance of samples with a higher reinforcement fraction. Thus, it was concluded that envira cheirosa is a promising alternative for polymer composites, combining structural efficiency, sustainability, and economic feasibility.
