Acesso em: .https://bdm.ufpa.br/handle/prefix/10352This study aims to understand the function of rice porridge (mingau de arroz) in funeral rites in Bragança, Pará, in the present time, by analyzing the memory and continuity of this cultural practice based on the experiences of the city's residents. This practice reflects ancestral traditions, in which the habit of consuming certain beverages served as a celebration of death. In the northeastern region of the state of Pará, these customs remain prevalent, particularly during wakes. To develop this research, the oral history method was employed. It is worth noting that questionnaires were applied to individuals of different ages and both genders; furthermore, we conducted site visits to funeral rituals and observed the preparation process of the rice porridge. The focus of this research is the urban area of Bragança, specifically the Perpétuo Socorro neighborhood, where this practice is still carried out in a unique manner, considering the death ritual undergone by a loved one. Family members typically make preparations to receive those attending the deceased's funeral ritual.
