Acesso em: .https://bdm.ufpa.br/handle/prefix/9091This study aims to analyze how social conditions influence the teaching-learning process of reading among 9th grade students at a public school located in the rural area of Bragança, PA. The qualitative research is based on authors such as Freire (1996), Bourdieu (1989), Soares (1986), and Vygotsky (1998), and was conducted in the school context through observations, reflective notes, and interviews with students and the school coordinator. The results indicate that factors such as social vulnerability, lack of family support, domestic responsibilities, and early motherhood directly interfere with students' interest and performance in reading practices. It was also identified that reading is mostly perceived as a school obligation, with little association with pleasure and everyday life.
