It is based on the understanding that the contemporary environmental crisis requires not only economic and political changes, but also the strengthening of access to reliable and high-quality information. In this context, the study discusses the right to environmental information as a fundamental principle for citizenship and social participation in decision-making processes. However, in a scenario characterized by the rapid circulation of content and the valorization of persuasive discourse, practices such as greenwashing gain prominence by promoting a responsible image without support from concrete actions. This strategy undermines trust in available information, weakens criteria for evaluating sources, and hinders the adoption of sustainable choices. Methodologically, the research is qualitative, exploratory, and descriptive, based on a literature review and documentary research on national and international legislation and agreements related to the right to information and the Sustainable Development Goals. The study aims to contextualize the environmental crisis, analyze the impacts of disinformation on source credibility, and establish parameters for identifying greenwashing based on the dimensions of information literacy. It concludes that strengthening information literacy and the critical role of information professionals are essential to confronting environmental disinformation, promoting transparency, and contributing to the construction of a more conscious and sustainabilitycommitted society.
