Acesso em:.https://bdm.ufpa.br/handle/prefix/5885The increase in the Brazilian population caused by the industrialization of the country in the early twentieth century caused population growth to culminate in urbanization problems, the disorderly growth brought negative consequences for cities such as lack of Basic Sanitation (SB) and, along with that, the lack of Environmental Education (EA), something fundamental for the sustainable development of the environment. In this sense, the present work aims to analyze the problems caused by the lack of (EA) and (SB), as well as its consequences in the resident community of Conjunto Japiim in the city of Castanhal. The research was carried out through a case study through bibliographic surveys through scientific articles and magazines. There was also field work, in which interviews were conducted using a structured questionnaire and, at the end, photographic records were taken. It was found that the lack of EA through the pollution of the Housing Complex and, consequently, the destruction of the little SB that was in the place, led to the consequences of flooding in the Housing Complex due to rain, broken and clogged drains, an increase in garbage that cause problems for environmental health by contaminating the soil, atmosphere and water, and damage to human health due to the proliferation of pathogenic agents that transmit diseases.
