Acesso em: .https://bdm.ufpa.br/handle/prefix/9143This study investigates urban transformations and the permanence of residents on Avenida João Pessoa, in Altamira-PA, within the context of changes driven by the Belo Monte Hydroelectric Plant. The qualitative research was conducted through a literature review, analyzing theories on gentrification, socio-spatial inequality, and urban reconfiguration, based on authors discussing these phenomena in the Amazon and recent studies on the social impacts of large projects in the region. Semi-structured interviews were also conducted with area residents. The main results indicate that Avenida João Pessoa is undergoing a gradual process of property value appreciation, accompanied by changes in resident profiles, although gentrification occurs more slowly due to the resistance of the traditional population, especially the elderly. It was observed that the requalification of the area did not occur homogeneously, as new constructions and investments raise the cost of living and attract new inhabitants, while part of the original community remains, creating a dynamic transition. The research highlights that, although there is still no large-scale displacement, there are signs of real estate speculation and infrastructural changes that could accelerate this process.
