Acesso em:.https://bdm.ufpa.br/handle/prefix/5018The gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is a chronic illness caused by the retrograde flux of the gastroduodenal content to the esophagus or adjacent organs, resulting a variable spectrum of esophageal or extraesophageal symptoms and/or signs, that may be associated or not with tissue injuries. This issue has as aim to assess the prevalence of GERD in the region of Belém in the period from November 2007 to March 2008. This is a study of regional character, descriptive, comparative, multicentered, cross-sectional with epidemiological design, where 400 adult-inhabitants of both sexes were interviewed in the period from November 2007 to March 2008 of , in the state of For. This research shows the high prevalence of GERD in Belém, mainly the kind of miste. The regurgitation is the main typical symptom and pharyngitis / pneumonia atypical symptoms the most mentioned. The epidemiological profile of the GERD’s patient has the predominance of females, young (18-30 years) and unmarried, without children, the prevailing high school education and family incomes of 2-3 minimum wages.
