The present study aimed to report the occurrence of ectoparasites and describe the morphology, morphometry and ultrastructure of lice of the species Eulaemobothrion opisthocomi. For that, three hoatzin were collected in the municipality of Muaná, in Marajó Island, State of Pará, Brazil. These birds were euthanized, and manually inspected for the presence of ectoparasites. The lice found were stored in 70% ethanol, clarified in 20% aqueous potassium hydroxide for 24 to 48 hours, neutralized in 10% aqueous acetic acid for 30 to 40 minutes, dehydrated in an increasing series of ethanol for one hour each, diaphanized in creosote for 48 hours and mounted between slide and coverslip with Dammar gum diluted in Xyline and dried in a stove with a temperature of 50 to 55 ºC for 30 days. Some specimens were processed for Scanning Electron Microscopy, so they were fixed in Karnovsky's solution, post-fixed in osmium tetroxide and calcium chloride solution, dehydrated in series with acetone, dried at critical point with Carbon dioxide (CO2), Mounted in support for SEM with carbon tape, metallized in gold and observations to the scanning electron microscope Evo 40 Zeiss with a voltage of 25Kv. All three birds were parasitized with lice. The specimens were identified as E. opisthocomi based on lice morphology and morphometry, showing that these insects infest these birds endemic.Acesso AbertoMalófagosEulaemobothrionOpisthocomiPiolhoAmblyceraMalophagaLiceCNPQ::CIENCIAS BIOLOGICAS::ZOOLOGIA::MORFOLOGIA DOS GRUPOS RECENTESCaracterização morfológica e morfométrica de Eulaemobothrion opisthocomi (insecta, mallophaga), parasita de ciganas, Opisthocomus hoazin (aves, opisthocomiidae)Trabalho de Curso - Graduação - MonografiaAttribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs 3.0 Brazil
